Night Night!

This morning about 4:30 or so Ryan was wide awake in bed. He kept cuddling and saying "Hi Mama" or "Hi Dada". I really wanted him to go back to bed, but he was so sweet! Chris finally got up to get Ryan a sippy and Ryan followed him. Well, Ryan was sick. The poor little guy lost it as soon as he started to follow Chris. Luckily we got him over a sink first! As soon as it was over he turned to me and said "Hi Mama". How sweet is that?!?!

Well, he has not been feeling well the rest of the day. He has a fever and just acts sick, I feel so bad for him. The point of my story is this... took a while huh :)... I was painting his room and he walks in and says "Night". He walks to his bed and lays on the floor where the mattress should be (his bunkbed is partially disassembled right now). Then walks over to me and says "Night" again. Well, he told me twice and that was enough. I took him to my bed to lay down with him and he was out! For those of you that don't know, this just doesn't happen with Ryan. He plays until he drops or if I make him go to bed he screams until he finally gives in and lays down. So this was a first and I would feel really happy about it if it wasn't because he was sick. However, I do hope that it at some point he starts taking naps like this on a regular basis!

First Zoo Trip

Ryan went to the zoo today for the first time. The first big animals we saw were the Gorillas and Orangutans. Ryan was in heaven seeing all the "monkeys". :)

You really need to click on these to see the baby Orangutan's hair. It was standing straight up... I loved it! :)

Quick snapshot after the real monkeys.

Dad and Ryan looking at the Rhinos.

Yiayia and Ryan peeking through the fence at the horses/zebras. :)

Every time I see a giraffe I think of Missy... we miss you! :)

Ryan chillin' by Mommy's favorite... the elephants! He is really starting to like his sunglasses too.

Ryan chased this peacock forever. He was definitely NOT scared of it, but it was scared of him!

Ryan getting an up close and personal look at the leopard.

Next up was the polar bears. I love them too!

While stopped at the polar bears Chris had a phone interview with his current boss at DW Turner. He looks very concerned... :)

Ryan playing while Dad interviewed.

All in all I think Ryan enjoyed the zoo. He loves being outside and it was great because he actually rode in his stroller. This was a fairly new development at the time and one I am DEEPLY grateful for. He used to HATE being in a stroller and would only sit in it for about 5 minutes... it stunk! Thank goodness he got use to it before the next one comes!!

Costa Rica

We got back from a family trip to Costa Rica about a week ago. I can't believe it has taken me so long to actually post some pictures on here. My brother graduated from UNM and this was his graduation present. Congratulations James and good luck at Stanford!! Costa Rica was absolutely beautiful! It was extremely hot and humid. I thought for a while that I had adapted somewhat to the humidity, but I was wrong. We spent a LOT of time in the water to keep cool!

We took a catamaran out in the ocean for some snorkeling and to see the sunset. It was beautiful and we all had a great time... even though some of us did get a little sea sick! :)

Sunset from the catamaran.

We went on a tour of an estuary near our resort. We saw lots of birds, cool trees, crabs, and a few monkeys.

Chris and I on the boat.

My mom holding Ryan...who is sound asleep!

Chris and Ryan walking through the jungle looking for monkeys. Ryan kept yelling "Monkey... Monkey". He was so excited to finally see one and wanted to take off after it into the jungle. Needless to say he has LOVED Curious George ever since... lol!

Ryan having a blast in the boat on the way back from the tour.

The next day my mom kept Ryan at the resort and we went on a jungle canopy tour. (Basically a bunch of zip lines all connected in the trees.) I was all set on going too, but they found out I was pregnant and wouldn't let me go. I was pretty bummed and my pregnancy hormones got the best of me (I couldn't stop crying the entire time they were gone... I felt pretty dumb)... oh well.

Some of the many monkeys they saw while on the zip lines.

There were a bunch of raccoons at the resort. They would come out at night and stalk the trash cans and the dinner tables. Ryan absolutely LOVED them... he thought that they were dogs. We told him that they were raccoons and from then on he would yell "Racki" every time he saw one. He tried his best to catch them, but it seemed the only thing they were actually afraid of was being chased by a 1 year old! Seriously, nothing else made them take off like Ryan trying to pet them. It was pretty funny, but it scared me that he may get too close one time.

Ryan chasing a dog on the beach.

The pool at the resort. Ryan would run along the ring on the edge of the pool, no matter what I did I could not get him to slow down. By the end of the trip everyone at the resort knew he was Ryan because they constantly heard us yelling "Ryan! Come back!" or "Ryan! Slow down... WALK!!" Seriously, random people would come up and say "Hi Ryan!" It was kind of embarrassing, but what can you do. :)

A few days into the trip this sweet little boy from Argentina came over to say hi. He couldn't speak any English, but Ryan and him struck up an instant friendship! They LOVED being around each other. It took us a day or two to figure out that his name was Flaco. He loved to talk to us and didn't care that we had no idea what he was saying! One day at dinner he was carrying on some conversation with Ryan about him being his "Amigo" and every time he paused Ryan would look at him and say "Huh?" It was hilarious! After a few minutes of this Flaco decided that Ryan must be "loco" and did the universal signal for crazy! It was pretty funny to watch. It was cute to see them have so much fun together. It didn't matter that they couldn't understand each other. They would sit next to each other at the shows at night and hold hands. Ryan couldn't stop giving him hugs either. Flaco was a darling boy and was so sweet to Ryan!

A picture of the whole family our last night at the resort.

Our family on the beach.

Wow this ended up being a long post. I just have one more quick story to share and then I am done I promise! :) You all know that Chris and I are fluent in Spanish right? LOL... just kidding. Well apparently our son does speak Spanish. Not only did he love talking to Flaco but he knew other Spanish words as well. Every time Ryan saw the pool or ocean he would run towards it yelling "Agua!" We have know idea were this came from since he started saying from the beginning of the trip. Possibly he heard some other people calling it that or maybe he really does know Spanish!

We had a great time! It was so nice to relax and hang out with family! Thanks for the great trip Dad and Mom!
